The family from the start

The Dietrichson family in Norway begins with Major General Erasmus Dietrichson, who came to Norway in 1724 after serving as governor of the Danish West Indies. His son Frederik had four sons, and the family continues in four branches from them. The overview below follows each branch down, generation by generation.

The overview is based on Store norske leksikon, the Norwegian national encyclopedia, and on the family register of 1882. Generations found only in other sources are marked, and so are details where the sources disagree.

The family tree

The forefathers

The family is Norwegian with Danish roots, and the name comes from the given name Diderik. Erasmus Dietrichson was born in Copenhagen and came from the Danish West Indies, where the family register of 1882 calls him governor. In 1724 he was appointed commander of a regiment in Kristiansand, and that year counts as the start of the family in Norway.
